3) Sharpen the details. The amount is rather arbitrary depending on how large your source image is, but keep the Amount high and Radius low for scenes like this one where there are a lot of details. You can use lower amounts for portraits and scenes with low-frequency details.

4) While still on the Lightness layer, were going to add contrast to the image. Instead of manually making adjustments, I find that the “Strong Contrast” default preset of Photoshop is sufficient and works really well. Naturally, you can manually create your curve if desired.

5) Click on the LAB layer to reveal the color data as well (CTRL+2).
