Frankly, this wasn’t that big of a surprise as rubber allergy is pretty common, but this is the first time a commercial photography product gets called out and Canon’s newly launched entry-level EOS 650D (EOS T4i) DSLR’s rubber grip areas near the grip and left edge cause allergic skin reactions as well as a tendency for it to turn white after prolonged use.
According to Canon’s product advisory, the reaction is caused by an excessive amount of rubber accelerator during the parts’ production.
With exposures to high temperature and humidity, the grip’s material turns into zinc bis.
The allergic reaction may not be present to all users, but only to those susceptible to skin irritation.
Lastly, this affects EOS Rebel T4i manufactured between May 31st to June 15th (2012), so take a peek at your camera’s serial number (box and under the base plate). If your sixth number of your serial is “1″, then you can contact your local support or Canon office for a replacement unit.
