This was a big news a couple of days ago and I held back on posting the article because Adobe’s servers were down after the initial report of this campaign of theirs.
For an undisclosed window of time, Adobe has offered their full CS2 suite for public download, to combat the proliferation of illegal downloads of their software.
Get your free Adobe CS2 Suite! Yes, Free! Wait, Not Really
While the version for download is pretty old, they core software is still more or less 80% identical in functionality to the current versions (at this time, it’s CS6).
But there’s a catch… It’s meant to be accessed and used by those with existing CS2 licenses and serials, and Adobe officially stated:
[blockquote]”Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch.
These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems.
But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers.
While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.”[/blockquote]
According to Premiumbeat.com’s updated article:
[blockquote]UPDATE, 2:40 p.m. PT: There has been clarification since this story broke. Adobe has not released the CS2 software for free. Instead, it has cancelled its CS2 license management servers, so for those with existing licenses it is now offering downloads that do not require contact with the licensing servers. This service is only going to be available for those with existing Adobe CS2 licenses, which will be verified when creating the Adobe account to download the software.[/blockquote]
But just so you know, it still works right now, you can still download and use the serials as posted, but technically, you’ll still be pirating the copy. If you still want to download it, take advantage by getting it through this link (Adobe ID free account registration required)
Note that CS2 doesn’t work for newer Macs, only PowerMacs (whatever that means, since I don’t use Macs)
